as some of you may know i have a 9800GTX and am doing some serious oc-ing with it, but my problem is as follows.

no matter what program i use to set fan speed (rivatuner, ntune, expertool) as soon as the core hits 60 degrees, the fan speed goes straight back to auto, which sucks because for benching in excess of 800 core and 2000 shaders i really want maximum cooling.

so pretty much half way thru 3d mark 06 you hear the fan go practically silent....

the core is not stable at these frequencies if the fan speed is auto as its getting into the 70's in temp.

any recommendations?

well i managed to fix the issue by simply disconnecting the blue cable from the fan connector, bam 100% :D

I have the fan bug aswell but a little different my 9800gtx cycles up on auto as high as 70 percent fan but EVGas Per tool and riva tuner malfunction when I set it manually. This is hold back my overclocking a bit.

Why not mod the bios and have the fan speed your way. It is easy, or send it to me, i will do it for you.

9 series fan issue fix

If u download nTune from the nvidia website u can control the fan speed as well. u can create rules so that it speed up or down at certain temperatures, everything u can do with Rivatuner and it works. Plus, if u have a Nvidia chipset motherboard, u can control the whole system. All the fans, GPU fans + OC, CPU fan + OC, memory OC, all chassis features, etc. Hope this helps

My card stays 60deg on idle, and 70 on load, fan spins up, spins down, but clocks are the same all the way - 2D, 3D, doesn't matter. Is it like that on all cards?

yeah, the fan ramps up at certain speeds, that is Dependant on temperature alone, the clock speeds not not affect the an speed.

however after 175.xx drivers the fan speed control issues should be resolved, personally i think a 60 degree idle is a tad high, with the fan at 50-60% (still very quiet) you should be in the 50's

My fan on idle is at 37% and on load I think it goes to like 50% ~ 65% And you can barely hear it. But going over 70% you'll start to notice it....

I'm running the 175.19 drivers, and I used rivatuner to set 100%, my idle temp went from 60c to 46c. I can hear the fan a bit over the din of my other fans, but not much heheh!
