My 9850 hates me!!!

I can't get this thing to 3 gigs for anything. Have it at 2.900 ghz stable and it just won't go any higher.

Wonder if I got a lemon?

I think that is, I know for the Athlon X2 series that is recommended when overclocking, also what voltages have you increased other than CPU (I'm guessing that you've increased that)

You're already at 2.9, why the hell even bother for the other 100mhz? I could understand if you wanted it for a 2-1 ratio, but you already said you're going to drop your ram.

When I decided to buy this processor I told myself I wanted to hit 3 gigs. Thats the only reason I want 3 gigs. Just to do it....
I'm happy with 2.9 and will let that ride for now. But I wont stop trying to hit 3 gigs.

I know the feelings, I've done that with a couple opty's before. I'd say just raise the volts and use a lower divider, lower the ht and see what happens.

set your multi to x15. That will just give you 3ghz. And your fsb at 200. But if you want your memory overclock. The x14 215mhz. I seen a thread somewheres, where a someone got the chip up to 3ghz before, on water of coarse.

You are running your RAM too high. Set your memory divider lower.

DO you know how to clock the phenom?

you just don't turn down the HT with the QUAD.

You need to turn down the nb 11 * 1 = 11 in damn what's the section called.

I tried just changing the multi, but wouldn't boot. I was able to hit 3 gigs, but couldn't get it stable... Yet....

I went from a 6000+ that I was able to get 3.553 out of, and just trying to get this thing figured out.

I have heard about clocking the NB, but don't know where?

What's your memory speeds set too? All you did was just change the multi, did change the divider on the memory.

How stable is your vCore? What brand is your PSU? You've got a great board, but if you're running it off a shoddy PSU, no matter how many watts it is, your board may not be able to compensate for voltage fluctuations.

And keep in mind, every chip is different. GL :toast:

Friend first let me offer some friendly advice...never buy an 8 pack of hotdog buns and call it no good because you couldn't make 9 hotdogs with it. Nor should you ever buy a pair of size 29 pants and call them bad because you couldn't fit your size 32 waist into them...:shadedshu

Now with that said if you are truly worried about getting that extra 100Mhz out of your processor I would advise that you drop the Northbridge AND your Ram speed down to first see if your particular chip will achieve 3Ghz stable at all.

I've been running at 3Ghz 100% since I recieved mine (after burn in) on stock voltage as have many other of my friends. Adding voltage is not really necessary for majority of these chips to hit even 3.2Ghz (as it's been seen on stock voltage already). I'm doing this on air cooling (that's just my style, nothing against water) as well with no problems.

What are you using for a cooler for your processor and what are your idle/load temps (also what temp is the room). What is your case setup (current) and like has been mentioned how is your power supply situation?

Try to set your system to 1.30v (stock), 250HT Bus, 12x cpu multiplier, 8x northbridge multiplier, 8x HT Link multiplier (1.6Ghz is the bios setting), use the 1:1 ram divider just to see if it'll work anyway (DDR2 400), if it does work try out the 1:2 (DDR2 800) divider for 500Mhz. That'll give you 2Ghz NB&HT Link, 3Ghz cpu, 500Mhz ram speed and what you were looking for all along.

Have you tried actually testing the cpu by itself or did you set all of the settings at once before deciding it just won't happen? If the settings I suggested (no guarantee) don't work then start out from the beginning and try the components individually to see what you can get.

Btw, the northbridge multiplier is listed as such in the bios. That IS how you clock (and DE-CLOCK) the northbridge. Remember that you can not have a Northbridge speed lower than the HT Link speed no matter what. Are you using some sort of program for your settings or the bios itself and are you comfortable with the bios?
