Benchmark Scores I dont have time for that.
so i decided to post this b ecause i was installing fable and thinking about how insanely smooth it would play on my system...than i remembered i used to have a card an AMAZING card one that held top of the line for quite longer than most do..a card that could play even fable at high settings....the card that after some tweaking and hard core ocing broke my first 1000 in 3dmark 06....this card was the 9800pro.....it tore through games at the time...had more value for the performance than any card sold after it and back when grfx card companys were a little more honest it did what it was built to do..play the games of today flawlessly...my card had an r360 core an XT model i never managed to get it flashed to XT because everytime i did i got artifacts.....but their was no need really in the end..the card did everything and more that it was built to do....

here is a picture of my exact card..the sapphire radeon 9800pro

id like everyone to take a second and think about this amazing card and how it eld up to so many games and made so many of us happy...this isnt a thread about the x1xxx or the x8xx series i dont want squibble about how much they were better or how much value>perf they had this thread is dedicated to a giant a card that took a beating as well as dished it out...

i will now ask visitors and members alike reading this to now take a moment of silance.....

My friend bought my Asus 9800 Pro(flashed to XT) off me and its still kicking! I had to mod the Arctic Cooling Silencer fan since the Asus uses a funky fan header but its still working and playing Flight Sim X, poorly, but its still playing!

I also had a 9800 Pro Mac Ed, notice had. The water pump in my dual 2.5Ghz G5 died and couldn't find a replacement so parted it out. The logic board died with it as well.

Awesome cards, though the 9700pro should really get all the praise, that card raised the bar massively, this merely raised it a little higher

I still have one of these running in one of my rigs (with the first arctic cooling h/s on it), i had a 9700pro fail on me and was sent it as rma

At that time, we all had copies of Doom3, but no one was able to play it! I had my new, albeit stock sony computer, and none of us could play it! one of my friends got a pretty high end laptop computer, but it still was unable to play it at anything but the lowest settings. All was lost! then suddenly my buddy dropped lots of cash on a 9800-something AGP, and it rocked hardcore! The FPS was so high, everything looked so hardcore good and smooth, it meant the world to us! Heres one for remembering the good times, reminescing on the good times back in the day.

Back in its time this card hit NVidia so hard, its green balls mashed. My brother owned one of these., he gave it to me and I passed it on to a friend. Back then I really didn't have the time/games to put it to good use.

I miss ATI Technologies.

9700 Pro was the first time in history that ATI managed to slaughter NVIDIA. First and maybe last time. Heh. 9800 Pro was a nice bump up tho.

9700 Pro was the first time in history that ATI managed to slaughter NVIDIA. First and maybe last time. Heh.

GeForce 8 series came to the rescue of GeForce 7, or ATI's offerings were pretty-much slaughtering. 7800 GTX fell to X1900 XTX, 7900 GTX had little or no leads over X1950 XTX, X1950 Pro became a smash-hit, when we thought the mid range for ATI was weak, came the X1650 XT (which did perform well vs 7600.....GS) It all came a bit too late for ATI, GeForce 8 series (and DX 10) sort of took the sheen.

The 9700Pro was a beast card, the 9800Pro was an improvement that perfected it. In terms of price to performance? The 9800Pro wasn't the best, the thing was damn expensive, I paid damn near $400 for mine the day it was released.

I think best Price to performance goes to the 9500 and 9800SE.

I agree about the 9500 being the best bang for buck especially if you picked one up early that had the L shape memory(easy 9700 Pro).

I have the 9700 in my ASUS M6Ne laptop... 1.5 Ghz, with the new Centrino processors, Bought it in 2004, was the king back then lol, I remember smoking my friends huge full tower case, P4 3+ ghz, and him just staring into space, lol.

I don't know if they make such good quality laptops anymore, it's still running flaweless.

To have the 9700 in a laptop was so OMG back then, lol..

I loved my 9800 Pro (Sapphire one, same as the pic). Paired with my AMD AthlonXP 2200 @2.3GHz it ploughed through games of the day. Cost me £140 at the time, got it after xmas following the release of HL2. Fantastic jump from DX7 HL2 on a ATI 7000 LE card lol.

Sold it for £40 :( oh well it served me well!

I loved my 9600 PRO, it was my first gaming card, my OC and my first cooler replacement. I remember playing HL2 at medium-high and BF2 on medium. Then I put it in a backup PC, which my uncle took, disassembled and lost the card. :(

I had that card a long time ago, and it was The Shiznniets!:pimp:, most of my friend had Nvidias 5700 & 5900 and my 9800 pro just beated them :D. That card was the main reason why im still with ATI today.
