For the convenience, its no better than my wireless n router and I actually get better speeds. Using the electrical wiring, these companies need to better learn how to utilize it. The speeds are ridiculously low.

i think they are perfect if you dont have more then 2 users in your house. but i agree speeds are ok in 5years the speed may be to low for the average user! and if only there was a cheap way to have more then 2 pc connected

the 200Mb/s advertised speed matches wireless, in that its full of crap.

200Mb refers to up and down at the same time - thats why it uses standard 100Mb ethernet connectors to the PC (how are you gunna get 200 Mb when it connects at 100Mb? marketing at work)

To connect more than 2 users, you plug the powerline adaptor into a switch for multiple users in each room. performance linking them is usually pretty poor.

The #1 advantage to this setup is that the speed is constant - unlike wireless, it doesnt drop out from a truck passing by or get swamped out by too many wireless devices (cordless phones, bluetooth devices, neighbours with that stuff, etc)

Yeah its not a bad device.....but its too expensive lol (ie, wireless N router with MIMO isnt going to drop out all that often).

Thanks Darksaber I often wonder how well those work. My house would probably be much worse. Poor wiring from the 60's.

Darksaber, can you qualify the "close proximity"? Does this mean two outlets on the same circuit within less than 3m, 10m, 20m or what?

Thanks for doing the real-world file transfer tests. Such benchmarking comparisons are rarely done for these devices. The info was very helpful.

Could you possibly repeat the test WITH ENCRYPTION TURNED ON?

What would also be very very interesting is to compare the results to a competitor product. Is this as good as powerline gets, or are there better possibilities?

For everyone complaining, TBH, ethernet of powerline, is something that is a great way for "simple" networks, like in your grandparents house, or getting a reasonably good connection to an outbuilding. It is also a good way of avoiding wireless signals if you dont want them: interference and snoop risk.
