cool mouse, but it looks like its a hybred of the logitech G-series & M$ mice.

would like to see how it goes up against a Logitech G5 & a MX 518 which are more its 'direct' competitors

I beg to differ ^^.

Considering the price of the mouse: 49€, it is in the exact same price class as the Logitech G9 and the Razer Lachesis. Thus the Avatar is compared to these mice.

cheers

* Possibly too long USB cable
* Package design may go under, next to the ones from other manufacturers
* Manual / CD hard to find in the package

Were these negatives necessary ?

sure, readers need to know. These are not points that lowered the score at all, but still need to be pointed out The USB cable is really long, it will get in the way if you are taking the mouse to a LAN party for example.

Maybe thats valid, but what about the cd hard to find ? how hard can it be, its gotta be somewhere inside that small package .

ît is tugged away inside the front cover of the packaging. There is no mention of it anywhere on the box. So you may unpack your mouse and look at the traditional location (ie: behind the mouse in the main box) for the manual/CD. So imagine unpacking your mouse, not finding the drivers -> returning it to the store, getting a new one -> going home, just to search for it again...

cheers

it's a Razer made mouse, rebranded for NZXT , everything is cloned from Razer, the mouse to be honest is crap ;] just like any other Razer product. My opinion about it.

We developed and spec-ed the NZXT Avatar completely from scratch. I won't lie when we say we share some suppliers but that's like saying we buy boxes at the same place. We've tailored each aspect of this mouse to our needs. I hear people mentioning Logitech G series and Razer mix and i have to admit these were the two mouses we targeted developing this product. I can promise that you won't find another mouse with the same design on the market, NZXT owns the designs to the product alone and has invested quite a lot of time in this. It's hard to imagine something like a mouse could be so hard to develop but we really took a lot of time with the Avatar. [ Development time was about 1.5 years beginning with the first mockup]. We're actually working with media to publish our beginning to end process of designing this mouse. Thanks for your feedback everyone, really appreciate it. It's our first go at this and we wanted to give a good effort, as with all NZXT products.

Thanks for registering and giving us some insight. Im always excited when manufacturers or reps from companies we consider top notch join and chat with us. I really like this mouse, and in fact, if I didnt buy me an OCZ Equalizer (Love the blue) I would grab this if it was available. I really love the design and shape of the mouse. Also the color scheme. I prefer an extra long USB cable compared to the relatively short one I got with my OCZ. It makes cable management easier and placement easier in my eyes. Plus, gold plated connection is a plus. Granted it wont help too much because the USB connection isnt gold plated as well, but it is a start.

It's hard to not get anxious when a new products launches for us, I have a bad habit of googling the product endlessly to see what people are saying. It's my responsibility to take the consumers' thoughts and criticism to heart regardless of how hard it is to bare. I'll pop in and out of forums from time to time.

I like the look, there is something about this mouse's symmetry and not only that makes it look atractive. Then again what realy matters for me is how comfortable it is and of course the dpi.

As a minus I could only say that those two macro buttons look placed in a somewhat uncomfortable place for extensive use.

nope, had Copperhead (dreadful side buttons and peasant plastic + bright leds) and Krait, and Lachesis , all of them have the same bad schema = cheap plastic, cheap "colorfull" leds, peasant control panel for drivers, and the whole "updating firmware" of the mouse is uber crap. i'm not a fanboy, but if calling someone names makes you feel good about yourself and your e-peen the i'm a fanboy of good design , and Razer can't do that.

yes they can that is why there are logitec's #1 competitor also when did i ever call you a name?

that's fine that you don't like their mice, its your opinion but don't put a blanket statement over a product like razor which has a high standing with consumers as being one of the best, don't say they suck or their crap because you don't like them

what mouse do you use then?

on topic
im going to try this mouse out and see how it compares with my mx518 and the g5/7 if it can beat the mx518(my preferred mouse) then i will be ecstatic that i finally found a mouse that i like more than the mx518 (the avatar does look a bit more attractive)

i wrote what mice from Razer i used, yes its my opinion i don't go around and brainwash anyones mind around ... what mouse i currently use ? mx510 for old server , mx518 for my main setup, and touchpad for laptop , also had dozen other mice's (G7, G5, G3, all didn't cope with great mx518) and by that mine point of view i like Logitech products more, because they aren't so "cheap" made like Razer does, no crackling sounds from the enclosure, no bad designed side buttons and cheap Mexico made plastic or smth. Not buying another Razer product in my life, all of Razer "Fame" and "Good brand statements" are from hype brand name , nowadays there is nothing left from the "quality" of that brand (and it never was ) they just think some cheap plastic, some glowing logo, and add a stupid "transformer" or anything else crazy shaped mouse and your good to go, just look at thier "products" they are laughable ... it looks like in Razer company the PR guys design the mice and the the engineers. My point of view ;] , looks like i read the site for years , register i already made an "enemy"

Good looks.. sleek and formal. I can see the teflon paddings below are covering the base equally (which is a good thing unlike my G5 which only pads one side.. making me feel the rough surface of my exactmat sometimes when mouse pressure is applied on the non-padded part.).

I agree with the negative point to the non-adjustable weight.. and the edgy side buttons (i can feel the irritation right now just by reading it).

Johnny, I agree with WarEagleAU. It is always nice to see MFGs on the forums showing their interest in what users want.

I like the design, looks nice. I can understand the negative about the cord length Darksaber mentioned. On my desktop it would be nice but with my laptop its good to know I'll have more cord to keep out of the way.

Pity I like my G5 so much. Maybe I'll give it a shot after mine dies.
