Vista help

I need help. My friend, a shop owner, hooked me up with a copy of Vista. I can't install Vista on my custom PC. I get a 0xc00000e9 error. Funny thing is it loads on my other PCs. He said it maybe my ram, dvd drive, or hard drive. I brought all this stuff like two months ago, so I hope its not dying already.

that error indicates an issue with the boot device may be worth checking your ram or HDD dont think its the dvd

Are you doing a clean install or upgrading ?

do you have more than one DVD drive on the machine ?
USB storage ?
New Hard drive hasn't been formatted yet ?

Oh yah is this a dvdr of vista or real one ?

there's issues with SATA dvd drive ... maybe put IDE one in there for the install would help also.

I disconnected my HD, left the ram in and tried again. It still don't work. So its not the HD, i doubt its the ram because it still boots, so it must be a dvd-drive?

Windows Boot Manager

Windows has encountered a problem communicating with your computer.

This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive whilst the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.

XP is on the drive. Only one drive. I install vista on it before and XP, but this wont install. I dont get it.

I could be wrong but i think i have had the same problem with MSI board with ULI chipset now owned by nvidia. I think is SATA related problem, it was for the ULI chipset.
I put SATA drivers in installation (in WinXP you press F6 in Vista you don`t need to do anything) I pluged USB hdd with SATA drivers on it i move past error but installation was ultra slow i gave up Try with SATA drivers see what will happen.

Wow I feel retarded. I have been thinking to install it the wrong way. It would only install if I opened it in XP first.

Ha ha....I spoke too soon. It will start installing but now I get a 0x80070017 error. I read I should uninstall my ATI drives so I'm gonna try that.

Well, I did that and it didn't help. I don't understand how the Vista my home boy burned worked but the one the store owner gave my didn't. I'm lost.

so is this a burnt copy ?

get daemon tools and back up the dvd to an iso file then load the iso on a virtual drive. then install from there ^___~

RAM can still boot and be unstable...Vista is VERY touchy to unstable Memory..I know this from experience, quite a bit actually. It will crash during bootup when XP will crash when loading a game or bench...ymmv.

Glad you got it working, but what I said above is something to keep in mind while tuning/tweaking/overclocking.
