These 8.8 are a disaster on my system (winXP64), I get 'can't find compatible driver for your OS' when I install them, but they seem to install anyway, then there's the weird green screen with vertical lines each time I do a monitor change and that leads to bluescreens..... twice.
They added the video options you could manually add in older drivers via registry tweaks, but they removed some options from the 3D options to 'not confuse users' like the adaptive AA method dropbox.
Anyway it stayed stable enough long enough to remove them again and I managed to put back 8.7, so I'm relatively happy.
It's impressive though, that they now achieved blue-screening (WHQL) drivers, congrats ATI, you can do anything nvidia can!

anyone else having problems with 8.8 and vista x64 SP1?
all I get after reboot is a black screen and no HDD activity
I've already done 4 clean installs
I've already redownloaded the drivers
I've tried just the drivers, no luck

I am doing some comparisons with Vista 64 SP1 and have had no problems uninstalling 8.7 and installing 8.8.

Yea, if you follow erockers guide in the general graphics card section on uninstalling drivers, he suggests uninstalling any overclocking programs before uninstalling drivers.

wolf to scrizz, i didn't have any problems too .

uninstalled old drivers, ran driver sweeper and driver cleaner pro , rebooted into safe mode ran those 2 programs along with crap cleaner again . rebooted into windows, installed new drivers, and these are the first drivers that don't require reboot after installation .

Defenetely most stable than 8.7, I have gained some performance, no game crushes and they have fixed a problem in vista media center where hd video was only a green screen with audio now I have video.

From what I have gathered great improvements from previous, if you have problems you should try uninstalling all ATI software, clean up with drivers cleaner, reboot and reinstall...That should do it.

Funny how no two people ever seem to have the same experience with drivers.
Just for the record, they do not work right for me on xp64 and I do not use any 3rd party tools (yet).
But I do have 2 monitors attached and one via BNC so it doesn't do the EDID identifying thing.

i think we cant tweak the bios for 8.8, when i use stock bios, the card ran perfectly, but when i used modded bios, the card will give black screen just before the welcome screen. Even i tried to use amdgpuclocktool to tweak it to 720 and straight away give black screen. HD4850 user here.

Here is a link to my comparison of the drivers with my 4850, couldn't get the 3870x2 to work, every time I install the drivers they say they can't find a device for the driver.

the 8.8 would not let me overclock at all using the CCC overdrive. reverting back to 8.7 allowed me to take my GPU to 880 and 1150 with stock bios.
