EA Rep's BS on FIFA09

This is utter BS, Damn you EA

The PC version of FIFA 09 is different to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions because of the CPU processing power required for the architecture of the game.

The majority of gamer's PC's do not have enough CPU processing power for this architecture, so FIFA09 on PC has been built to have the best possible graphics and gameplay engine while still being accessible to as many fans of the game as possible. If the architecture was identical to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, FIFA09 on PC would only be accessible to 1-3% of the PC systems on the market.

Having said that, FIFA09 on PC delivers a very deep gameplay engine, along with leading-edge visuals.

Do you consider BS simply because EA says it? I mean you should feel lucky they even brought to the PC...They took away all of their other sports games.

Furthermore, the CPUs being used by the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 are in fact totally different in architecture than that of a consumer based CPU.

They said that the PC doesn't have the same processing power in the same in architecture. They didn't say the PC doesn't have the same power.

1-3%....that's about the same amount of PC systems on the market that actually get used for gaming....

This is why PC gaming is going down hill, because of asshole companies like this.

So the xbox 360 has a triple core power-pc based cpu.

If we look at steam stats (i.e. gamers) you can see more than 1-3% of gamers have core2quads or highly clocked core2duos. The core2 architecture is also better than the power-pc architecture.

http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=stats

In addition, why is a football(soccer) game so cpu limited in the first place? Even crysis isnt that cpu limited. This is just a bs excuse. They could always have multiple settings.

i dont think pc gaming is declining, if anything its on the up considering now one in maybe 4 homes has a pc, as opposed to 10 years ago when maybe 1 in ten homes had pc's.

its with the rise of games consoles, pc game developers have seen where the real $ is at, if 1 in 4 homes might have a pc, maybe only 5% of those are used for gaming, whereas if 1 in 10 homes has a games console, all 10 are used for gaming, hence a larger profit margin, and lets face it, they dont do it for the fun of it, its a business and nothing else, none of them are out for the gamer, they are out for themselves and that means leaving the original gamers (pc) out in the cold. they dont care, there raking it in and thats all that matters.

actully the PowerPC and the CPU in the PS3 are simpler than our chips granted, but also faster overall. It is very possible they are correct, our CPU's in general can't handle it.

How many still have AThlon XP's, Pentium4's, PentiumD's or Athlon 64 single core chips?

at least the admited they skimped on the pc version i knew something was fishy that they didnt look the same as the consoles

EA = BS on the pc i dont even bother with EA anymore unless its a developer who wont take shit like Bioware wont and i dont think Crytek will take BS either.

I've read posts that Fifa09 on console was better then the PC. I simply thought it was bull. I still don't understand what the difference is.

1-3% of users on steam equal to 1-3% of the PC owners cause AFAIK Steam can only be run on PC's.
The CPU has to calculate the movement of the ball and other such things. The PS3 has a 8-core IBM CPU and The Xbox-360 has a Tri-core IBM.

The truth is its all about profit its easier to code for hardware that doesnt change every 3 months no patches to make to keep the consumer happy. In EA case when you own all the rights to all the officially licensed sports you can dictate who gets what because there is no competition to worry about. Take for instance Nascar racing papyrus did a hell of a job for the nascar series and made money. EA saw this and bought the rights out from under them. End result EA couldn't match what payparus brought to market and the following for the nascar series died off. That's why used copy's of nascar racing 2004 are going for 75.00 a copy on ebay. EA doesn't give a rats ass what we think I do not buy anything from EA they have no customer support they just want your money. Am I a EA hater the answer is yes and proud of it.

Im not doubting the ability of the Cell processor, but the 360 processor is a 2004 tech processor which Apple abandoned in favour of Intel because it was rubbish.

The physics involved in a football game are as basic as they get. Explosions, and other multi particle calculations are the difficult ones. Think about what's required to run a 32 man UT3 game and then think about a basic football game.

EA have been doing this for ages including the past 2 FIFAs. And I have stuck to PES because of that since the pc version of fifa doesnt come close to it in terms of gameplay.

Also would like to say, the people in thread in the original post have done well arguing their point. Who thinks fifa09 will outsell crysis? Crysis went platinum in a few months with some of the highest requirements out there. COD4 sold well as well as GRID. Were they afraid of marginalising the market? No, they realised that if you make a good game, real gamers will buy them.

I just played it on the xbox 360 and your right it is more fluid.
-Better presentation
-Better menu system
Additives like:
-practicing in an urban field before you start the exhibition
-practicing on the main field before you start the actual exhibition
-fully customizable controller option

IMO EA dropped the ball big time for PC users. If they are not going to develop a game as good as they did on the console they mind as well not do it at all. To those who don't own a xbox 360 (not sure about PS3) you get more features in the on the xbox360 at 740Megs then you get on the PC. In particular the practice session, presentation and menu layout. And, you get to pick your jersey color, something I not able to do on the PC (if it's there, the menu layout is so bad that I couldn't find the dang option).

Actaully for the first time in a long time Fifa 09 is pretty good on the console. Give the demo a try. I honestly don't see that much of a difference between this and PES as far as game play is concern. Sure there might be some nuisances but Fifa09 is actually pretty good. I like to see what PES 2009 demo will be like though.

My only grip with Fifa09 on the console so far are 2 things:
1. Its abnormally difficult to get control of your goal kick outside the box. It's as if all of a sudden you are playing with a 1st year rookie
Example, no matter what I do he will torpedo the ball into far left, right or above the goal by several meters. This just isn't right. The power feature in kicking the ball is simple not accurate. A simple tap is all that's needed in some cases. Even if the goalie catches it you want the kicked ball to be somewhere within the area of the goal.
2. Camera angles just plain suck. I want the same camera angle as you get when you practice but in widescreen and a tad further back.
3. Automatic cross kicking and, this is not in a good way. Both PC and console version exhibit this unusual behavior and it's something of concern. I am not sure but it appears you can cross kick the ball with the thumbstick. Something I seriously don't want to do and hope this option can be disabled because disabling it on the PC does not function correctly.

Other then that, the game is fine.

Pes2009 looks like it plays similar to Fifa09 on the console. The only difference I can see is that the players and ball itself moves slightly faster.
video

Side note:
The biggest difference between Fifa09 PC and xbox360 is the ball handling and ball movement. On the PC I have not been able to handle the ball with the thumbstick as good as I can on the console. Also, the PC version does have a jersey selection option, they call them kits. Another thing, the PC version forgot to set levels of difficulty for this game.

If anything consoles are becoming more like pc's. To be honest I can't wait til they become the same thing except with a controller packed with it.

1-3% seems very low.

But if you calculate the amound of PC's worlwide and divide those using todays technology, theres not much kickass gaming rigs left i guess.

In a way, i like it better when they make games that can run on older pc's as long as they scale too.

Consoles are becoming more like gaming PC's but with centralised control over allowable content...i.e. piracy proof.

The argument used by EA is utter bullshit. Not since the advent of the 8800 GPU'shave either the 360 or PS3 been able to compete with any up to date gaming rig in terms of raw gaming performance.

Well, EA's reasoning of broadening their consumer base has just lost them another customer....

PES or bust for me this year (again).
