i am assuming this is the "D" model made by Delta, as they all seem to be now. which is my own. and i can say its been powering my computer great for the last two months. mine is super quiet and runs stable and comfortably warm under load. the air never feels "hot" coming out the back from the psu itself. when the case is cool, the psu feels the same. the case gets warm, the psu warms up. so i'd say it runs cool with its 80mm fan. and its 80% efficient. it should also be pointed out the "D" model has 22amps on each 12v rail as opposed to the advertised 17amps for the Seasonic make

i had to reinstall Windows lately. i had software issues which caused many crashes and reboots. then i had to go through the process of installing and setting up Windows again. and setting up all my programs and files again. it takes A LOT of starting / restarting. the psu never hiccuped. my computer is used heavily for lots of stuff. i'm fairly impressed with this unit so far

a few say these are loud or kind of noisy. it shouldn't be. mine is very quiet, as are most. if you order and get a noisy one send it back for another or contact the company i say

from what i understand they are a very large OEM maker. they also make the antec "Signature" 850w psu. which is one of the highest rated atm for performance in testing

Delta have a 50% global market share in the high end server and workstation sector. so they have a good reputation. they've won numerous awards, and don't just make little psu's. they make a number of things to do with managing power for machines big and small

but computer psu's are the main thing from what i gather. they have good quality from what i was able to find in my research before purchase

here is the psu torn down. found these on another forum when i was looking into the purchase. i don't know what i'm looking at but it may help others who do

Yep, the link for the EA500. I didn't notice it until I got my Newegg invoice. Still a good deal, but I could have used the xtra 5 amps/rail later on... :slap:

I think some of the pictures of products on Newegg are a bit dated. IIRC a while back someone ordered one and get the 500D and after a little investigating others had too so like I said, old pic.

I am happy with the EA500 performance. Looks like I have a new favorite folding PSU for 2xGPU rigs.

Conclusions

Hardware Secrets Golden Award:

Antec EarthWatts EA500 provides one of the best cost/benefit ratios for the average user: it is a relatively cheap 500 W power supply that can deliver up to 577 W at 46º C, has high efficiency (between 82% and 87.9% in our tests), very low electrical noise level, is silent and provides two power cables for video cards. And it survived to our stress tests without burning.

Here noise level increased just a little bit on the +12 V inputs, going to 26.2 mV on +12V1 and 25 mV on +12V2. These results are spectacular (the limit is 120 mV and any power supply capable of maintaining a noise level below 60 mV is a good product and we are talking about a power supply which noise level is almost five times lower than the limit). Noise on the other outputs remained the same.

the newegg page is not up to date. reading the reviews there seems to be a little controversy among some buyers. some were under the impression they were getting Seasonic made models. which the "D" isn't. the pics i posted are of the "D" model.

it seems some wanted the other. idk why? i guess the reputation of the Seasonic model. but the Delta model seems great. and it has more amps on the 12v rails. same warranty comes with it. three years

i was under the impression only Delta's were being sold now? but not certain

Got mine today and it is the 500(D) @ 22amps/rail

.I am truly happy and waiting for the price drop again to pick up another. I will change over 2 more folding rigs in the future and everything will be 80+ efficient. :rockout:

I just realized that my Antec Sonata III case came with the EA500D instead of EA500! Does this mean that I can run a GTX 260 Core 216 graphics card, which requires 36Amps (since the EA500D does 22Amps X 2)? What are "rails" and does the EA500D really do 44Amps total?

Your fine with a GTX 260. The only card I can see it struggling with would be a HD 4870X2 but I bet this monster could pull it off :toast:

Delta's are pretty solid yes. One of Dell's biggest OEMs, among a few others, I believe Gateway uses them in a lot of their upper mid to high level machines also.

Anyways I have used about 10 of these in various builds over the last 8 months or so, they work great, quite, and run pretty cool. Love them for the buck, not a top tier, but bang for buck, certainly a nice psu.

I have a Neo HE 500, been running this system fine for the last 2 years. Alot of people knock Antec for their PSUs but I've never had one quit on me, my case came with a 300 watt originally and that sucker was strong. I Swapped in a 460 L&C Technology Inc due to the 300 not having the 12V P4 line (didn't know I could get adapters at the time), that 300 watt was sold in another machine. Two years later I found out when I got back to the US the 460 watt PSU was sold in another machine so I had to go find something better, that 500 watt was being sold for 90 dollars and the price couldn't be beat at that time.

yes i agree you're fine with this PSU and a 260. as long as you don't have 10 hard drives or somethin'

your card needs two 6 pin connectors and the PSU has two. so just plug it in no worries

don't worry about single or multiple rails. you have plenty of what you need. and yes 22AMPS on each 12v rail is fairly substantial for a 500w PSU. if you want to understand more here is a good link to an article:

Bottom line from the article:

For 99% of the folks out there single vs. multiple +12V rails is a NON ISSUE. It's something that has been hyped up by marketing folks on BOTH SIDES of the fence. Too often we see mis-prioritized requests for PSU advice: Asking "what single +12V rail PSU should I get" when the person isn't even running SLI! Unless you're running a plethora of Peltiers in your machine, it should be a non-issue assuming that the PSU has all of the connectors your machine requires and there are no need for "splitters"

you're good to go with the Earthwatts 500w. depending on other system specs, perhaps. which you don't mention. but it will power a fairly beefy system. its very stable

That ones by Seasonic I think.....

But yes with Antec you have to watch it, some are a pile, and others are great... Best part is the price is always right!
