sapphire x800gto NOT 2 pipes and clocks

question..i just bought a sapphire x800gto (not the gto2). it has R480 core with 12 active pipes. anyone been able to unlock the other 4 pipes or know if for sure these were laser cut? or is there a way to tell without removing the fan and cooling assembly?

also, if not is there a custom bios or how difficult is it to just take the OC settings from ATItool to flash that into a bios so it dosent have to be manually set every time?

thanks

Post here your fuses data (launch ATiTool hold shift key and click on Settings, release shift, post here all line containing word fuse), then I can tell you if you can unlock pipes.
You can set ATITool to use your OC values after startup. Or you can dump your bios, edit it using Rabit and then flash it.

don't feel bad the days of the gto mods are ending all around. Newegg got some newer GTO2s from sapphire and they are no longer moddable from what i read in another forum. Your card will probably get you through till ATI releases the r580 there nexgen GPU after the r520, it is supposed to be using some kind of unified architecture similar to the Xbox 360.

Sorry, but as noneed4me2 said no unlock is possible with your card. Try to overclock it using ATITool, you can get the same performance boost as if you unlock pipes.

overclock

my display settings list x800gto and x800gto secondary ...only secondary works, when i switch to the other one the screen gets all messed up...strangely enough atitool dosent work anymore either..it says the monitor output for the card is disabled. the overclocktool that came with the sapphire card TriXX works fine however so i use it to overclock. ever run into that problem with atitool or know what this secondary thing is?

I am getting great preformance out of my Sapphire X800GTO (AGP version) by simply overclocking the hell out of it.

However I will try to unlock the extra pipes through a BIOS flash, Modified Driver, editing of the RAM fuse data, or volt mod. I will keep ya'll posted.

I have been Modding and Overclocking for years but I am new to hardware hacks like volt mods and such.

All ATI cards with two outputs have this secondary device. It is useful when you work with two monitors. If you have only one, you should connect it to the primary output.

the back of my card has a dsub and dvi output....my monitor of course uses dsub and they did include a dvi/dsub converter. i connected the monitor to the dvi using the converter and same result..it only works on the secondary channel. sound right?

Is your graf. card correctly displayed in device manager(i.e. no exclamation mark)?
Where did you get this info that your card runs on secondary channel?

Thats right ATI cards emulates the second device so it seems as a second g.c.
If you open display properties (rightclick on desktop and hit properties), then on the last page there should be two devices. The first should be Radeon X800 and the second Radeon X800 secondary or something like these. Select the first device (Rad. X800) and change screen resolution for thisone. If your monitors resolution changes then everything is OK.

yeah..if i do that the screen messes up..i dont see any problems running on the secondary..was just curious what it all was..

It _seems_ mampfi has managed to unlock a Powercolor x800 GTO, a card that isn't supposed to be unlockable. Not tested though.

Bearing that in mind, the word is that Sapphires GTO-card is lots easier to unlock.

Good luck!

Who told you that GTOs are not unlockable? Ofcourse not all of them, but there is some percentage of successful unlocks. And I think that it would be much better now. Look at those new GTOs with R430 core. R430 core was and still is considered as not unlockable core, but I saw a few people were successful. That because their cards are not GTOs, but X800XL. Manufacturers just repack and reflash X800XL and sell them as X800GTO.

my gto has the 480 core. currently i overclock it to 550/530 ...it can go a bit higher, but i think it tends to get a bit hot..so i lowered it a few ticks from what atitool found..is there a way to test for lasercutting without disassembling the cooling unit? i might be interested in trying to unlock the other 4 pipes :rockout:

R480 cores have their lasercut on the other side of the core. So there is no way how to connect it without destroying your card. Try to post here your fuses data, then I can tell you if you can unlock pipes by flashing bios.

My GTO, with aftermarket cooling (Koolance ATI X800 full card job) hits 600/580 no trouble, 60 load 40 idle.

If it does unlock, I doubt I'd see those speeds again, because from what I've seen of the other unlocks it'll clock to the slowest pipe in the setup, and the unlocked four can be.. Iffy.

I'm going to push it some more with the OC and see what I can get out of it, 607/583 starts artifacting, but my system is running on sodding PC2100 crap at the moment, while my 3200 is in the RMA cycle (Since november :|) so o/c's are.. pointless at the moment, for me anyhow.

Try overclocking yours using ATiTool, either the built in find max mem/core settings, or tweaking it and scanning manually.

But if you unlock the pipes, you will get much bigger performance boost than by overclocking it. Unlocking pipes gives you 25% more performance, with smaller temperature increase than if you make this boost by overclocking. So after unlocking you can still overclock your card pretty high and beat only overclocked cards easily.
And if you think your overclock is high, look at X800 fuses data thread, there you will se X800GTO2 clocked over 800 Mhz with unlocked pipes.

I saw that thing :D

They have a slight advantage to me, they had a vapochil unit ;P

I don't game enough to need the performance boost from trying the unlock, I can run FEAR without dropping below 25 FPS on this card, and that's good enough for me.

Can anyone help me get an idea if it's possible to unlock pipes on my GTO? It's a Sapphire 128mb PCI-E. Here's the Fuse info:

CONFIG_DIE_FUSES 0xFFFFBFFF
CONFIG_SUBSTRATE_FUSES 0xFFFFFF9E
CONFIG_ROM_FUSES 0xA61

The chip type is R430

Thanks!
