Just found this over at this site . They found that with 8.10 hotfix drivers, textures were missing in FC2 . Perfromance increased with this so called "FC 2 optimized driver", but the performance increase comes from missing textures .

pretty interesting stuff, i'll be waiting for 8.11 now .

entirely not surprised. Lots of people have reported FC2 trouble in the thread i stated, and most had either Nvidia 180.xx betas, or ATI hotfix/beta drivers.

I agree that cheating is bad-- BUT! Do I usually look at rocks like that in my fps?

Lol! I'm using the 8.11RCs and the frames are 5 shy of what's shown in the hotfix, and there is no texture loss on a single 4870. Still I can imagine my x2 or a GTX280 would play the game soooo much more smooth.

i can max the game on the old drivers or new ones i dont see much performance increases

yeh this beta driver's from nvidia and ati not really test it yet , they only want is far cry2 run better

Who cares.. It runs uber good and looks amazing.

I am using the hotfix and it looks excellent, not always smooth but playable.

Let me get this straight. ATI is made aware of a performance problem in their 8.10 drivers with FC2.
So they toss a beta, hotfix, unsupported, minimally tested driver out there to give some immediate relief to their customers (although at an IQ hit) and people call it cheating?

I would call it good interim customer support, while they are figuring out the real reason for the performance hit and can correct it in the next final release (ie. 8.11) driver.

I would expect nVidia to do the same.

Just my 2 cents.

Sometimes removing a texture is how you improve performance, give them some time, they have to make the game well playable while they optimize the game itself.

agree with you guys, but its better to know that game is missing some textures because of driver, rather than the game's fault

Just in from ATI over at [H]

The "other" guys brought it to our attention via websites over the weekend so we had an engineer come in to debug. He found a bug in his code, got a fix together for us, and now we are getting it packed and prepared for a hotfix update. 12 business hour turnaround!
Plan on going live today or tomorrow.

Thanks for the thorough testing guys.

lol nvidia cheated on Crysis :P

I think he means by Nvidia paying them off to keep it "The way it's meant to be played" and not optimize or conifgure the game for ATi whatsoever. However, this thread really isn't about Nvidia is it? Looks like we will be seeing another hotfix today or tomorrow. That's some good driver service! :)

Hmm....kids with keyboards....sheesh.

And ATI has done the same on FC2.....do you honestly believe that ATI would have "Fixed" the hotfix If no noise had been made about It??.....come on....If It was Nvidia being caught (Like Crysis)(Maybe) the fanboys would've been yelling to burn down the Nvidia HQ.

I've had ATI and Nvidia and cannot say anything bad about either....both did/do everything I need/needed them to do...and did It well.

Rock on. :rockout: :toast:

Change the exe named Crysis to Cryziz(or anything) and you will see :)

Ohh never mind I forgot about that... Wasn't that an AA thing?

lol !

Not sure if this was a bug or a deliberate attempt, but will be interesting to see what happens with the next drivers .

I believe he may be referring to a driver nvidia released that removed/limited water reflections in crysis to give better performance. It happened around the time that we started to see a lot of 3870 vs. 8800 GT benchmarks. They fixed it fairly quickly though.

The whole thing boils down to whether the released driver is a hotfix or a final release.
If either company finds a problem and releases an interim driver to help resolve the problem, that is good.
If they whack thier final release drivers to gain an advantage, that is bad.

Let's all step back and look at what is released in final versions before we trash either of our fave GC companies.
