Dell S2209W and S2309W 16:9 LCD Displays Officially Announced
Dell refreshed today its monitor line-up by introducing the two brand new S2209W and S2309W LCD displays. First leaked some time ago, the two monitors are finally going into the market so you can enjoy them. The sleek, glossy frame S2209W is a 22-inch LCD widescreen that boasts full HD 1920x1080 resolution, fast 5 ms response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 300 cd/m2 brightness, and 160° / 170° viewing angles typical for most TN panels. In terms of connectivity the S2209W features both analog and DVI-D (HDCP) inputs, but it lacks of HDMI. The S2309W has exactly the same specs as the 22-inch S2209W with the one difference that it boasts a bigger 23-inch matrix. Dell is now selling both displays for $239 and $299 respectively.

I bought a Samsung 226cw a few days ago - I had a lot to choose from & spent all day researching monitors. some of the lower end Dell monitors werent too good such as the 2207w its dirt cheap but I want a monitor when reviews give it at least a 8/10 - that way you know its gonna last & be fully satified with the crisp visuals.

22" vs 23" price/size ratio
22" = 272.25 sq in. = $0.88 per sq in.
23" = 297.5625 sq in. = $1.00 per sq in. The 22" is better value... can you tell I'm bored? |

I understand that 16:9 is great for HD TV/movies, but will this work in gaming? Are most games able to scale to this resolution?
Very happy to see that Dell isn't charging a crazy premium for this atypical design. ![]() |

more games work in 16:9 than they do in 16:10. why? console ports, of course.

Wow, those are amazing prices. I paid not much less for my 20" a year and a half ago. If I could afford it I so would...

I think it's very strange for Dell to offer 2 similar models with the only thing different being a slightly larger screen. There must be a pretty important reason for them to do this. Ultimately, I think the 23" model would sell better just because it's closer to the 24" models we all know.

very nice price for a Full HD monitor, sadly there's no HDMI ports there !!
hope to see some nice reasonable priced 24'' 16:9 monitor with HDMI at least, and DisplayPort will be very good addition even thought having some analog TV inputs will be nicer than DisplayPort... the Dell 2408 has all these features ( except it's 16:10 with 1920x1200 resolution wich is better for productivity ) and have all the ports you need: VGA, 2xDVI, DisplayPort, S-Video, Composite and component, not to mention the card reader and the USB hub !! but all this comes with high price too, nearly $800, more than double the price of these babies !! BTW, when will Dell have LED backlighting desktop monitors ? |

No, its not the same.
the S2209W uses a twisted nematic panel, which lessens the number of colors that are visible. |
