put computer in the corner for two days, now doesn't start up

I had it fully working and everything just it didn't support the e2180 I put in, so I had to use my bro's e6400 to get it to boot, and then my plan was to flash the bios after I had aquired my friends floppy drive. So I put it to the side for a few days while waiting for the drive, then when i got the floppy drive I installed it and it didn't work. The LED on the motherboard lit up, so automatically I assumed it must be the power botton that's broken. So I tried that on my computer and it still works fine, so i'm a little stuck as to what it might be. Could it have been static electicity from the carpet? I don't really see how it could be as the case has the little things that raise it from the floor and even then the case would conduct the electricity right?

Help.

do your fan's and everything spin, if everything is working but your monitor isn't displaying anything then it's probly your graphic card, i've ran into that problem a couple times. there aren't any beeps are there? i thk if there's 6 or 7 that means its your cpu so make sure the heatsink is on all the way i'm assuming your using the stock heatsink/fan, if put on correctly it shouldn't move or give if you try to make it move by like wiggling it.

No the computer fails to do any of that. It's acts just as if the power button isn't connected (although i've tested the button and it works on my other computer). Is it possible that the power button connection on the mobo is borked? Is there a way to get the computer to start without the power button?

take a metal object like a flathead screwdriver and connect the 2 pins that you normally would plug the button into.

have you tried unplugging the fdd drive. It could also be shot inside stopping your psu from coming on line.

Unplug all extra parts ie, hdd's fans etc. and try it then.

The green lid is on but the fans dont work I don`t know if I get it wright. If that is the correct that it like a PSU problem.
First check if 4 pin from the PSU is connected properly second check PSU. Remove it from the case then on the 24 pin connect green and black wire with a wire and then put the power cable in the psu that will manually start the psu and measure the voltages yellow is 12v (11.8v-12.4 it is acceptable) red is 5v and orange on the 24 pin is 3.3v.
If the voltages are ok and when you connecte psu to mobo the power led is lighting without you press the power button than is the mobo.
For testing try with min components connected no front usb only one dimm no power to hdds and optics.

maybe it's mad because you made it sit in the corner, lol. but seriously it's either the psu (I think it is try another psu) or mobo but more than likely it's not getting power somehow

ok I just tested it with another psu. I lined both computers up together and put the 20pin connector from my psu into the motherboard (hmm that sounds slightly wrong). Anyway, the ASUS L.E.D. lit up on the p5b-e plus but it still failed to boot. Is that enoguh to diagnose the mobo as faulty?

unplug everything and run it bare(only cpu ram and gfx card) and open system( out of the case on a box or something). i'm guessing that something got shook up when you moved it, and by rebuilding and testing along the way, you'll figure out whats wrong.

pretty sure yes, as I said it was working fine before I put it in the corner for a few days. OK can someone tell me how likely it is that static electricity has damaged it in some way?

the reason i asked is because you said you tried it in another computer and it worked but in this computer it doesnt, i would say look it up for the hell of it

I had about the same problem not too long ago and it turned out to be the PSU so good call

EDIT: i didn't see the post above. try doing what panchoman said.

Check the motherboard visually for leaking(bulging) capacitors. Bad caps can totally screw up a pc.

I don't think a new board would have bad caps already but why not look it couldn't hurt.
