I recently bought this HD4350 to replace the HD3450 in one of my systems. The 3450 has an hdmi slot on it, so I was able to hook it directly to my tv and audio was working and everything.

The 4350 does not have an hdmi slot, but supports hdmi/audio with a dvi/hdmi adapter. When i used an adapter I got from a 3850, I got the screen working, but there's no option to switch to the hdmi audio.

The "hotfix" for the 4350 is actually an older driver compared to the version 8.11 I had for the 3450, and when I try to install the 8.11 drivers, it says the card isn't supported.

This is frustrating, first HDCP and PowerDVD was giving me problems (have to use AnyDVD HD just to watch movies) and now this.

Any suggestions?

It seems that the latest compatible drivers for 4350 card is the CCC 8.10 Hotfix drivers, this is what the ati.com site suggests when selecting XP driver for 4350.

Try the 8.10 hotfix drivers, if still no audio, check device manager if HDMI passthrough codec is installed or not. I dunno if CCC drivers actually install the Realtek ATI HD codec or not (one would assume they do) ?? If not, head to Realteks website and download the ATI HDMI Audio Device driver and install it through device manager.

You will need to install the HDMI drivers from Realtek, they don't come with ATI.

^ thanks for the info, I have allways disabled the HDMI component of ATI cards before installing any drivers, don't have any use for this. Maybe OP problem is just this, no Realtek HDMI driver installed.

It didn't work. Everytime I plug the hdmi cable into the adapter, this pops up.
I don't know what this means, since I thought I was going from dvi to hdmi, and not the other way around.

This happened before I installed the realtek audio too.

Do I need a special dvi-to-hdmi adapter?

I might just have to go buy a 4000 series card that actually has an hdmi port on it.

EDIT: Also, if you look at the link for the hotfix, you'll see that it's version 8.542 of the driver, not 8.10.

dvi and hdmi use the same digital signal, but dvi cannot carry audio. any sort of dvi-hdmi adapter means that audio will be lost unless if you find a way to add the audio back into the hdmi cable externally. you need a video card that has hdmi output and will allow you to input audio. that way the card will output in hdmi, while routing the incoming audio to the hdmi signal.
asus has a sound card that allows you to input hdmi from the video card and it will output hdmi to your tv.

I'll quote directly from the manual of this card then:

"The ATI Radeon HD 4350 series has a built in HDMI with HD audio support for one-plug HDTV connectivity. This unique feature is enabled with an intelligent DVI to HDMI adapter."

It didn't come with an adapter, so I grabbed one that came with a 3850, which also supported HDMI audio.
And to verify something, the audio does, in-fact, come with the video drivers, since when I installed the drivers for my 3850 at home, it made the ati audio default.

Another part of the manual states that the hdmi audio through dvi is called "MSI Exclusive Mazarine DVI"

And a quick google for that name states I do need a special adapter, god dammit.

I have a 4550 and in order to use hdmi audio (assuming you don't have a native hdmi slot), you MUST use a 4xxx series adapter. Your 3 series one will not work

How do I go about acquiring one of these adapters?

Tbh Its supposed to come with one. I recommend e-mailing newegg and they will charge you $10 or something like that I believe

edit: you also need the realtek audio driver installed. Newest version is 2.03 I believe

The adapter that you require should have came with the card. The DVI output of the card will pass HDMI audio with the adapter in place.

I am about 90% sure that my HDMI/DVI adapter from my 3870 is the same one im using for my 4850.

After purchasing an adapter from ebay, my brother discovered the adapter that came with his 3870, and it worked fine.

I just had this problem two days ago. I have 4850's and wanted to use my tv as a second display. I was getting the same pop up in Vista 64. So first I thought hmmm, maybe drivers. So i updated, still had the same problem. Then i searched around and I realized I was using the DVI-HDMI adapter that came with my 2900xt (grabbed the first one in my "shit" drawer) The newer 4800 series cards have a new "revision" of the HDMI adapter. The new ones solve this popup audio error. Its easy to spot as the old ones i believe are grey and I KNOW it says REV: A on it. The new ones are black I think and dont say anything. im at work right now so I cant double check, but I know for sure the old ones say REV:A and cause the problem if used with newer cards.

BTW, my 4850's dont have a direct HDMi port, just the DVI - HDMI adapter. i think you mentioned that earlier in this thread.

That sucks. :(

You could resell it, personally I'd just hold on to it. I knew I was using my 3870 adapter and the packaged adapters from my 4850s are still in the box.
