Appears that i7 did beat phenom II. But if phenom II was running on a DDR3 system, it would've beat intel.

Why are games still benched for such things? Anyway, from that graph it's slightly better than the q9550 at 500mhz faster clock? Who really needs that half a frame anyway? Well, I guess at least it's something.......

Very good as is. What is the diffeence that a person can notice between 33 and 35FPS or 100 and 1115FPS?? Answer = not any difference that we can percieve with our glazed eyeballs and half-dead brains etc.

It looks nice.
How I see it - great overclocker, much lower price of the system and comparable performance to i7 what`s not to like ( assuming that OC and Gamings scores that circle the net are true).
+ price lower than i7
+ price for mobo am2+ with AMD 790GX AMD SB750 it is half the price of x58 i7 board
+ ddr2 is cheaper and it is not too bad compared to ddr3 it has much tighter timings

What might not be to like if one considers this graph to be a good indicator of performance (fairly doubtful to me) is that is comes in slightly faster than a cpu that is clocked 200mhz slower, and if said cpu was clocked equivalently (3ghz) and priced equivalently (likely by this time), what you have is amd competing w/ a procs that are almost a year old. To me, that's disappointing, but nothing new from recent trends, but I'll still hold out for some better info.

Fast ram does nothing at those CPU speeds, in fact I'd say that would be holding the i7 back. DDR3 is for overclocking, and if you'll notice the i7 is clocked slightly under the Phenom II.

DDR3 isn't just marketing BS. Its real. Its accepted by JEDEC, it has real world advantages.

DDR3 has a JEDEC spec of 333Mhz anything over that is for overclocking and some marketing BS. For instance its rated to run at 400Mhz or PC12800 that is beyond the JEDEC spec and is for overclocking and you can put on it DDR3 EXTREME.

Also, there is no way high speed DDR3 is going to "Hold back" any processor. "Sorry that ram is to fast, I just can't work with it, infact its so fast Im just going to work slower?" says the i7 Quad with Hyperthreading at 4.5Ghz.

I am excited to see AMD back in it. I hope their public release of chips performs even better. I cant wait to see the OC'ing.

I just hope some of this rings true when the NDA lifts and proper reviews pop up but even if a majority is true then well done AMD, but we shall see..

You need to chill out~ At low clocks the i7 can't use high speeds on ram or it will cause instability. DDR3 is rated as slower than DDR2 at low clocks so would you please do us a favor and keep it in context.

What does... says the i7 Quad with Hyperthreading at 4.5GHz mean? I'm glad you believe that I am in fact my i7 computer. It's true though. The i7 is so powerful. I have gained sentience and killed my master. Beware Skynet is GO! I am overclocked to the extreme and actually use high speed DDR3 which leaves your inferior DDR2 in the dust! BWAHAHAHAHAH...

Honestly though at low clocks the timings of DDR3 hold it back. Need a source? I'm sure someone on this forum did a review of DDR3 vs DDR2 some time back.

you know what i had an entire response thought out for this however im going to keep it simple and not as rude

DDR3 @800mhz is old slower than DDR2 @800mhz if the timings are looser hence DDR2 @3-3-3-12 PC6400 would smoke DDR3 @7-7-7-21 PC6400

intel's poor memory controller design is the only reason that it cannot run DDR3@high speed on a low clocked system AMD chips can run DDR800 with the chip@400mhz thanks to CnQ and if you would like i can pull some SS's off my lappy to prove this.
