OCZ Cryo-Z phase-change cooler
OCZ Technology, best known for its high performance RAM products, is entering the performance cooling market with its new phase-change cooler, the Cryo-Z. The Cryo-Z is designed by the famous xtremesystems member Chilly1 and features a copper base to its compressor head and an 'industrial grade compressor' according to OCZ. The unit is enclosed within a relatively compact case of aluminium construction. On the front is an LCD display which provides a temperature readout. An emergency shut down feature is built in. The good news come with the price, which according to OCZ will be economical, aiming it not just at the hardcore enthusiast, but at your broader enthusiast base also(unofficial information: $300-400). Sweet, now they just need to start making cases that match.

AMD FX 57 got -22C idle, -10C load. It was OC'd to my knowledge as well. even a hardass prescott system would never go very high.

as far as i understand this isnt made to be a highest performing system but a budget setup where ocz will make tons of money and users get the extreme cooling bragging rights

Yeah.. in order to be compliant with US gas laws and stuff, its prolly got r134a or something that will give you cold idle, but not so good loads.. using high pressure gasses like r290 may work, but improves the odds of it exploding.. and we know they dont want the average user trying to open it... BOOM! ![]() Assuming it *was* designed by chilly over at XS, it aughta be decent, atleast, but im sure there was some cost cutting forced... as chilly charged $500 for his.. I would rather buy one from him.. you could get it tweaked to your liking which was nice. |

Its r507 i think they are useing which is really bad on load, because it absorbs heat and the gas itself gets hot and they need liek a second condenser to remove the heat before it hits the compressor. I should have a review of CHilly1's unit coming out soon.,
