Buying a new computer, need help

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum (and very impressed by it too). I read the whole Phenom II vs. Core i7 thread... I was more confused after reading it though :ohwell:

Well I have a budget of about 1000~1500$ US (or CAD I live both in NJ and Quebec :laugh:

) and this includes mouse, keyboard, and screen.

I hope to be playing crysis and equivalent games pretty well. I would like a 22" 2ms widescreen monitor.

Now for the computer itself. For the processor I am not too sure, but I was thinking of either PII or i7 :rolleyes:

I heard some people here built there i7's for like $700 bucks .
I would go with the i7 Intel build if I were you .
But the setup you have there is very nice as well .

Don't expect to play Crysis with everything on, like AA and what not. Its a rough game to run.

Thats a pretty good budget for a computer build, Core i7 is more expensive but performs better then PII as of now, But Phenom II will still give you what you want for cheaper. Get maybe about a 700-750W PSU i would think maybe one by Thermaltake or Corsair.

That would blow those out of the water in terms of performance with very little budget added.

By going to a PII at this point in time, it would save you money over i7 due to being able to buy a cheaper motherboard. The PII cpu is just as much right now in price. IMO, if you got the budget left over to put towards an X58 motherboard, go i7.

Don't worry about Crysis. Very unoptimized and sadly, was not a very good game.

I would go i7 and a gtx260 play Crysis with every thing on very high settings with out a glitch JMHO . For goodness sake if you have the cash go i7 and get at the very least a good gtx260 or better yet the 280 .

There really is none to little difference at all.

EDIT:

^^^ Go with a GTX 295 or a single GTX280 to hold you over for a while.

Whats the price of a GTX 295? can I crossfire it later on if I want to? thats how it works right? buy 2 of the same card and do something so they go into crossfire config?

About $399 - $499 and you can SLI them and tri sli them as well :toast:

oh I see... but I would really like the computer excluding screen and case to cost about 1000$.... could I get a motherboard that is compatible for all that, a gtx 295 and 300$ i7 with 90$ of ram, 80$ of Hard drive, 40$ CPU cooler, some fans, a PSU and wtv I need else for about that price?

@Trickson, can't "tri" sli a 295.

@n-ster, FYI; with Intel i7/x58 you can do either Crossfire or SLI. Normally you would have to decide on either or if going with any other architecture on a motherboard. EDIT: Where are you planning on ordering from?
