well du lol i got it to work i just rite click it and run as administrater and that was it now im happy

In Vista I always used the built in defrag, I had it set to go once a day at 3AM since I generally leave my rig on 24/7, when not gaming it's folding...I can't complain. Not sure how good or crappy the Vista defrag is but it seems to do just fine at keeping the HDD's in order just fine, and I've set my fresh install of 7 x64 the same way, set it and forget it.

Vista still have problems with many softwares or vice versa .

My Buddy sent me a joke witch i want to share with you gurys. Just ignore the mistakes and enjoy the plot.

God was fed up. In a crash of thunder he/she yanked up to Heaven three influential
humans, George Bush, Russian President, and Bill Gates. "The human race is a
complete disappointment," God boomed.

"You each have one week to prepare your followers for the end of the world." Then,
with another crash of thunder they found themselves back on Earth.

Bush immediately called in his cabinet. "I have good news and bad news," he
announced grimly.

"The good news is that there is god. The bad news is Gods really mad and plans to
end the world in a week."

The Russia President announced to parliament, "Comrades, I have bad news and worse
news. The bad news is that we were wrong, there is a god after all. The worse news
is Gods mad and is going to end the world in a week."

Meanwhile, Bill Gates called a meeting of his top engineers. "I have good news and
better news. The good news is that God considers me one of the three most
influential men on Earth," he beamed.

"The better news is we don't have to fix Windows Vista."

in my opinion the diskeeper is the best in use or technological level, the price... this is minus part :)

but... on vista x64 have same real problem like....messing the windows files :)

for the raid array... I dont know also I belive that the current defrag programs dont have any optimization for the raid, simple because the defrag program dont know if you have a partition on one or many physical drive. the defrag program dont have access to the disk controller.

in order to really optimize a raid partition, the defrag program will must know how is created the raid partition, what is the stripe size, what type of raid it's. also will be very good to know the physical cache size on the any drive from the raid (also the drive cache if exist)

well i defraged my system useing ultimate defrager and after reboot it erased my vss so that one is not good for vista im going to give diskeeper 2009 a try

I use Perfect Disk 2008.

i cant get my system restore to work now it keeps eraseing restore points on reboot ultimate defrager realy mest it up

I like Defraggler. Looks like Norton Speed Disk used to back in the day and does good things for free. Also folder defrag comes handy with games.

Diskeeper 2009, has boot-time defrag back, can't beat it....

I have always used the software integrated with the version of Windows. Yes, it isn't the fastest but I don't expect it to be fast either. Defragging involves moving massive amounts of data from one location to another on the platters, it is a time consuming process if done well.

@adrianx: RAID doesn't matter. The drives are all synced so if the data is in one location on one drive, it is going to be very close to the same location on the associated drives. JBOD, on other hand, I can't imagine defragging do much good. At the same time, who uses JBOD? XD

The only way to do this

what is the best defrager for windows vista ultimate 32 bit that wont erase vss

Low-level hard disc sector editor. Period. The only way for a pro to truly and properly defrag their hard drive is to get there hands dirty and do the deed, byte by byte!

This will improve HD performance by at least 40% more than the standard way, I promise you. :rockout:

I did too before Vista. I highly doubt you would like Vista's defrag either, it's such a big step backwards from XP's defrag. It takes minutes to start and it doesn't show you anything. Just that HDD is either defragged or not, nothing about is there any free space or how much of the drive is fragmented.

I don't trust anything that doesn't show what it is doing and what does it end up with.
