Monkey Island 4: Escape From Monkey Island
Monkey Kombat Solution Calculator
A long story short, the Monkey Kombat lists I was keeping on paper was giving me a headache and it was way too easy to screw up so, I decided, why not make a solution calculator to do all the thinking for me? So I did and this is what I came up with (attached). You need .NET Framework 2.0 to run it.
Because it is pretty complex, I'll provide a brief walk through.
Main Window
This is the first window you will see when you open the application. Once the application is fully configured, this is the only screen you'll have to use. Basically, you set what stance your opponent is in and what stance you are currently in. In the area just below those two inputs, you will see the three-word combination that will change you to a stance which will in turn defeat their stance. If there is no known solution which will result in victory for you, "No Solution" will appear in that box.
The two buttons at the bottom open the corresponding windows.
Transitions Window
Here is where you enter the series of 10, randomly generated commands that change your stance. It is fairly straight forward. Just make sure you put the right commands in on the correct lines and also make sure the three command words are in the correct order (from left to right). Update this information as you figure it out and close the window when you are done making changes to save them.
Defeats Window
This should also be relatively self explanatory. Every attack style has two attacks which it will defeat. Enter this information in as it becomes available and close the window to save. The order they are entered doesn't matter. If two are available, it will randomize which one to use so that the game doesn't fall into a loop of attacks/retaliations.
Note that when you close Monkey Kombat.exe, it creates a settings.bin in the same directory. This contains all the information you input and will automatically load it when the executable is reopened. If you are going to format, for instance, it is a good idea to keep the settings.bin file with your Monkey Island 4 save. Every new game you create will require starting over from scratch to fill in the tables.
