I plan on selling the Rosewil PSU back to work for a system where the old PSU is dieing, and if it dies later and kills the system, oh well.

Later I will sell my display to them for a really reduced rate, and buy myself a 26". My mom wants to game a bit more, and she likes Civ.

Anyone have better sugestions? I plan on staying AMD/ATI on this. Stock cooling, and minor overclocking. Giving her my spare Vista X64 Ultimate licanse, and she has XP that I can install.

your mom will probably like perceived performance? ever thought of RAID 0? idk just a suggestion :)

If you don't trust MIRs or something, This RAM looks great!

Much looser timings, and probably not as much overclocking headroom. 6.6.6.6 vs 5.5.5.5

I am unaware of percieved performance, my mother is who got my more into PC's. Her father worked as a scientist for the goverment untill he retired, then to Coca Cola designing lots of things. Plus my father, and younger siblings will use it too.

Right now they are suffering along with a 800Mhz Celery and integrated graphics I tweked the crap out of, and I have a couple HDD's in it.

you have failed to realize that it is ddr2 1066 cas6 on 1.6v... you will be able to cas 5 at ~1.8V... then you'll have a lot of OC headroom :D

4770 is not overpriced... but it is probably overkill...

The 4770 at $100 is a bit overpriced, I would suggest a 4650, this one has built in HDMI if you want:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127417

$60 and worth the price savings.

I'd also suggest an alternate HDD, $80 on a 750GB drive isn't the best I've seen. Why not get a 1TB Samsung Spinpoint for $80?

That'll be a nice preformance build, definitely better than a Dell. What about Display? Maybe a decent 19" Acer LCD?

22" 1680X1050 BenQ

4770 provides awsome overclocking headroom, and this computer is probably a 8 year build, so it must survive with plenty of power.

I still like Seagates, and I am paying out for this build too so $$$ is a factor, I plan on waiting a bit and see what I can pickup on sales that is comparable. The board has built in HDMI if they wanted to hook it to their 46" plasma.

My experiance with budget RAM is that it is budget, and somewhat overclockable. But with proper voltage and tweaks a beter RAM will run faster. Mine isn't top of the line stuff, but 5.5.5.15.24 105ns and 6 write recovery at 560Mhz isnt' too bad, on 1.8v of power.

4770 makes more sense now with a monitor like that. I'd personally put in a lesser card now knowing that a $50 upgrade two years from now would be much more worth it than pay all up front.

Still much better than a Dell/Acer/whatever.

JAARB AA 0910 DPMW

No info found as of yet for a comparison on overclockability. But tonight it will be alive......

Runs 3.2Ghz fine at 1.35 vcore, stock aluminum only heatsink was a suprize, but still cools enough for this speed. 45C for ful useage, mebey bumping 46, but if I play with the voltage it pushed 55C easily with 1.4

Tried higher, and then temps start becoming a issue, I will start trying lower voltage overclocking to see how low I can go.

4770 is working great, but overclocking leaves a bit to be desired, every time I try overclocking the memory it freaks out and locks the driver up. I might actualluy try the drivers off the disk and see where I get from there. Currently 860core and 850 (max CCC) memory. If I try and manually adjust the memory from what CCC used it lacks up too, perhaps there is a clock sync that needs to be considered to keep it moving correctly.

Started working on timings, 1066 dual channel, non ganged. 5.6.6.16 6 twr currently with 2.16vmem on this set. I am going to leave OCCT running tonight and see if it is stable and what the temps do on the CPU.

Board needs a better NB cooler, this thin aluminum one is leaving much to be desired, and the fat that the BIOS displays voltage changes in mv, and then a seperate tweak for the CPU multi and voltage, and the voltage listed there is not what is actually shown after, for example I chose 15 multi, and 1.35 vcore, but on booting I had 1.23vcore, then I tried pushing the FSB, and used the mv setting, and it is in addition to the setting you have in the multi control screen, I had 1.55vcore for a couple reboots and the chip was getting into the low 60C range.

Performance tests.

Window rating Vista X64 ultimate. 5.37 on CPU, 5.9 on all else.

HD Tach result. Much, much faster than my Seagate 750GB drive, and this was while downloading and on the short test. I will have to trade out for one or more of these. :D

3D06 up soon.

Only a bit of difference from my system. Mine scored 14787. I might have to commit suicide crossfire.

With some more tweaking on the memory and punching the core back up to 860 I bet I can match my GPU scores.
