Hi ppl, its as the title says, I'm customising a X850XT BIOS, performance enhancements etc, but i'm an nvidia BIOS modded, as such there is something i cant find and a question i need answerd, so if someone can tell me it'll help a ton!

ok, first is fan speed control, does anybody know where in the X850 BIOS its located?

and lastly, does ATI keep GPU voltage control in the BIOS? and if they do, where is that?

cheers folks

I downloaded RaBiT, and I didnt see any voltage options (but then again, it crashed on me...lol) or fan options.

yeah i even tried things like rabit as a get out of jail free option with bugger all luck, im sure its not THAT hard to find where the card controls fan speed in the bios for an experienced HEX editor, i hex, but anything i know ive taught myself, not had any specific literature. and im sure ati must have a gpu voltage control hiding somewhere in the bios as well from testing ive just completed doing.

oh and a slight change, i ported what i had done tweak wise from the x850 bios to a x800xl bios, as quite frankly, that card needs the extra performance more.

there is no software voltage control on the x850 cards

nobody knows where bios fan speeds are located. its some kind of compiled bios programming language which has mnemonics for each instruction. the initial fan control is a series of instructions

Well thats rather gay of ATI.....I have no problem with a fan spinning at 50% in just normal windows, but still only spinning at that in 3D mode? Serious problem. and something that seems to be inherent nomatter what BIOS or card, I'm yet to witness any x800\x850 series fan speed up when it enters 3D mode, the only override seems to be ati tool, and possibly (havent checked yet) rivatuner.

I also replaced my x850 with my old x800xl and tried 7 other XL bioses, on my original BIOS for the card 420MHz on the core was barely stable and artifact free, yet 6 out of 7 BIOS I tried allowed me to far surpass my max core OC (by 30MHz to be exact)

This margin is far too large for me to accept there is no VGPU core voltage adjustment located in the BIOS somewhere, even if its something that only allows for a small voltage bump, IE: from 1.35v to 1.45v, Memory OC however nomatter the BIOS remained unchanged, with my max topping out at around 570-575 on air, and with and additional fan blowing over the card, max memory OC topping out at 625.

On a final note, among the BIOSes I triedwas as some may guess a Sapphire XL BIOS, which actually performed the worse, and the best performing XL BIOS was from Club3D, BIOS version 1, NOT version 2, and for anyone curious, both my X850 and X800 cards are from Sapphire, top quality components on the card, but not so top quality BIOS programming.

Thats gay of ATI, i'm yet to see any dynamic fan speed adjustment out of their cards based on GPU load, even in 3D.

and testing i done would say otherwise for no GPU voltage control, even if its only a small one from say 1.35v to 1.45v for example, as out of 7 other bioses i tested 6 allowed me to surpass the original, and barely stable core oc of 420mhz, by 30mhz, imo 30mhz is by far too large a gap to constitute no kind of VGPU voltage control at all.

for thoughs interested both my x850 and x800 are sapphire, but the sapphire bios was not the best performer from my tests run, out of the 7 bioses the one that come out on top was the club3d v1 bios NOT v2.

If you want to adjust your cards GPU voltage try voltmod. I dont think that it is possible to make this through bios on ATI cards, but I would be very happy if you convinced me that I was false.

I try to intergrate everything instead of having to use things like vmods, as fr convincing, it doesnt get much better than what i already reported, exactly whats going on im not sure, i can probably find out given time but it would be much easier having someone take a real in depth look who knows things like hex like they know their own mother.

i know for a fact with 100% certainty that there is no software voltage control possible on x800/x850

hmm, then quite odd how i can get +30MHz with some different bioses over what the original bios offerd, any explanation?

Probably the memory timings are the answer. I have the same experience with X850PRO VIVO AGP modded to XT PE. The only BIOS which allows max. stable memory frequency 600MHz (even after voltmod) was the HIS X850XT PE BIOS. All the rest show artifacts at high temperatures (70-75C) on the PCB (with original XT cooler - dual slot). The BIOSes has minor difference (hex editor) compared to the ATI BIOS and between each other. The second "good" BIOS was surprisingly from Sapphire.

memory OC didnt change period, and it doesnt explain how i can get an extra 30MHz, if there is no voltage control in the bios, what about a limiter? kinda like the senario with the old 9500NP

i cant remember exactly as it was years ago now, but there was a hexadecimal value that prevented OCing of the card and another that prevented unlocking on the cards with the "L" shaped memory.

I have measured the Vdd and Vddq many times with different BIOSes, under load, idle but they ARE (100% sure) rock stable. No V-regulation through the BIOS  . That's our dear ATI. Just in 1800 and 1900 Series it is already implemented :toast: .

like i said, its weird how i can get an extra 30MHz with this bios, somethings afoot.
