this is the guide I used thanks to Rob41 at notebookforums.com
here is a link to guide http://www.notebookforums.com/post3052378.html

before I used this technique I had a faulty 6800go card that showed short red lines all over the screen in an Inspiron 9300 ,almost like it had bad memory.

First I dissaembled the laptop and took out the geforce 6800 go videocard
then I removed the heatsink and any protective tape

next I preheated the oven to 385f ,I then put 4 small aluminum foil balls on a
cookie sheet and placed the videocard on the cookie sheet with an aluminum
ball under each corner of the card to hold it off the cookie sheet. Once the oven
reaches 385f place the cookie sheet and videocard in the center of oven.
Next set the timer for 8 minutes , when the timer goes off ,turn the oven off . Reset the timer for 10 min and open the door slightly to let cool slowly
Once it has had the 10 min slow cool down ,take it out of the oven and let sit for another 20 minutes to fully cool down.

I then put the tape and heatsink back onto the videocard. Next I put the videocard back into the laptop reassembled and started it up.
Now there is nomore small red lines and it runs flawlessly

What happens is the card while in the notebook will heat up and warp after time. Putting it in the oven essentially warps it back into place. Eventually it will most likely fail again from warping in the notebook. Good cheap fix. :toast:

Or it slightly melts the ball solder connections on the gpu and makes bad connections good again.

That could be part of it. But the PCB warps and the connections break away as well.
