Call of Duty 4 & Punkbuster

Is anyone still having issues playing this game online because of punkbuster on Windows 7? I know punkbuster said they werent going to update their software to accommodate Windows 7 until it hit shelves, but I was just curious. I got an itch to play it so i re-installed the game and updated punkbuster. Seems to be going pretty well for me at the moment. Hopefully it wont be kicking me out of any games.

Any of you guys still having issues with this in Windows 7?

I didn't have any issues once the RC hit, but some others did. Haven't tried it since I killed my last install

I hadnt tried it since the beta's and it was always kicking me out. I just had to reinstall it cause my 750GB game drive died on me a couple weeks ago. At any rate, im not having issues this far. Was just curious if others still were.

I had issues last time I tried BF2142, FFoW and CoD4 in Win7 RC...I was bummed as it seems some do and some don't have issues. I figure I can wait till 7's on the shelves and even matured a bit (it's going too fast imo, they're doing a good rush job, but just like any new OS release there will be issues to sort out). I'm fine with Vista x64 atm...everything works great, but I wouldn't have minded 7RC and kept it installed if I could keep gaming w/my clan while using it. I may have to load up my spare 640gb drive and give it another go.

Try RC 7127 thats what im using and CoD4 seems to be working just fine so long as the latest PB is installed.

I might, no motivation to do it at this time though. Things are working so good as-is atm, which is another factor to the motivation. I've tried 7 Beta 7000 and 7 RC 7100...tbh I'll probably just wait at this point. 7 was nice, but it didn't blow me away tbh. I'm sure I'll get it none-the-less, but tbh I'm happy with Vx64 SP2 at this point. But if I decide to give it a go, I'll definately keep that in mind.

Good, glad ya like it man. I can't even come close to saying the same, my gaming comes before an unsupported OS. Especially when it's clan-related...I have too much fun to be dicking around with PB on an OS it doesn't support yet...I've been issue free on Vista with PB for a long time, figure I'll keep it that way into the future. But like I said I might load it up on my backup hdd and see what happens...I just don't see a point with the release coming in a few short months.

Vista x64 SP2 works excellent for me, no complaints really...gaming is great, I have it working how I want, everything works, that's how I plan to keep it, till the support for 7 makes that a reality, it's pointless for me.

Everyone when XP came out was reluctant to leave 98SE, when vista came out, da ja vou with xp, why will people be any different with MS7....

Reinstalled CoD4 to try it on the new install, and it works just fine, manually updating punkbuster, didn't try without punkbuster updated.

I found a fix for this once. It involved using compatibility mode and run as administrator for a few files. Lemme see if I can find it.

This worked for me:

* Enable Vista compabitility for PnkBstrA/B.exe in c:\windows\syswow64 and c:\users\your_username\appdata\local\punkbuster.
* Running above files with administrator rights.
* Enable Vista compabitility for C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\iw3mp.exe
* Run iw3mp.exe (cod4 mp) without administrator rights

This only worked for some people, it was all luck based it seemed like. Punkbuster also patched to break the fixes that people were coming up with.

This doesn't do anything. The problem was Punkbuster was kicking people for having the using different API's that were unknown to it at the time. So the only real option was to play on servers that had punkbuster disabled.

Yup, I tried every fix people came up with when I was running build 7000, but could get it to work in increments or sometimes not at all. Then switched to build 7100 and it worked like there wasn't ever an issue. I haven't bumped up to RTM build yet but will once it is up on Technet.

when having problems with installs on vista try to install out of the program files, because the program files are protected and dont allow certain processes, works on occation, then just install wih compatibility mode, works mostly for me... its not doctorine...

I still have issues with PB. I have to reinstall is every time I want to play a PB enabled game. For some reason upon restart the damn PB won't start. The "A" or "B". Its only happen to me in Vista x64. I keep a DL installer in my documents folder just for this reason.

The problem at first wasnt with Windows 7 it was with punkbuster not supporting the beta/RC software. However, I have reasons to beleive that because Windows 7 is closer to launch that PB went ahead and updated their software for use in windows 7. The day that I made this thread (whatever day it was) is when i decided to try it for the first time in about 3 months. Before in build 7000, PB would kick me almost immediately after i logged into a server and started to play. Now, that isnt the case at all.

Actually you're quite wrong from what I've seen mostly on this forum and dozens of others as-far-as Windows 7 is concerned. 7 is the biggest hype monger and exciter that MS has released in many years and OS revisions imo, but it also seems it's backing up it's claims, features and support quite well. I can't complain that RC1 doesn't play nice with PB...at least not at MS...I can only blame Evenbalance and their garbage software. It's cool that they did the public beta and RC releases, and I enjoyed both...but for me I'd rather install my games, update my PB and play instead of messing around...till the support from Evenbalance is there for 7, I would just rather be gaming.

Gotta say though, you gotta at least add some relevance to the topic man...you got W7, but what about da games w/PB and 7 as the topic states in the title? We have plenty of Windows 7 topics where your post would've been better suited. But you are right that some may be reluctant, but many that have tried the bete and RC releases are drooling for that shiny new box on the shelves in October. :rolleyes:
